Julia Fairhall

The inspiration for my paintings comes from the sea, particularly around the Solent shores. Due to a family interest in sailing I have spent a considerable amount of time in boat yards and on the beach, this has given me the opportunity to sketch. These sketches have formed a starting point for many of my paintings.

The movement of the sea and the wind also reveals itself in my more abstract work with wave like brush strokes and fluid lines.

Acrylic is my favourite medium, either on canvas or board. Printmaking techniques added to brush strokes extend the range of marks in my paintings. I also produce Lino prints from my sketchbook drawings.

I studied at Winchester School of Art and Southampton Institute of Higher Education, gaining Diplomas in Fine Art and Printmaking. I continued my studies with a period of life painting in Southampton and printmaking at Badger Press.

I have exhibited widely in the South of England. I have had work selected for open exhibitions in Portsmouth, Southampton, Isle of Wight and Winchester and I have also taken part in two exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, London.
