I started drawing and painting at a young age encouraged by my mother who herself attended Southampton Art College.
I studied to A Level but my interest in ceramics and textiles dominated my artistic life until I retired, when I could concentrate on developing my water colour work. Art and crafts have always been hobbies for me, successful work often given to friends and family. I didn’t want the pressure of having to sell, although when I’ve exhibited my work has in fact sold.
Inspiration comes from the natural world, the soft shapes and colours of landscapes and plants rather than the manmade environment of architecture and engineering. Once I’ve found a pleasing composition I love to play with it, moving away from the real colours and detail of the original in multiple versions…
I’ve wanted to move towards a semi realistic style for a long time as well as exploring the new medium of acrylics.
