I was born and brought up in Australia and so I like to have a feeling of space in my work, whether abstract or not quite. My maternal genes ensured an interest in painting and drawing from an early age.
Line has always been of interest to me, and the effects that can be achieved with it. As well as collecting ideas in my sketchbook, I have studied the relevant work of Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Victor Pasmore, Ben Nicholson and Paul Klee. A few years ago I found my own way of using line, and more recently have experimented with introducing more colour. Coastlines of Guernsey and landscape patterns, including prehistoric sites, form the basis for my work. I joined New Road Artists 21 years ago (Timsbury Modern Painters as it then was), when most of my colleagues were the original members.
I have exhibited with New Road Artists and also with the Winchester Art Club (Bell Fine Art Prize 2001), Alresford Art Society, 2D3D South and in various other mixed shows, including Mottisfont.
My work is in private collections as far afield as Australia and U.S.A. and nearer home, in France and the Channel Islands, as well as UK.
In 2013 a mixed media drawing was short listed for the RA Summer Exhibition and a painting was selected but not hung at the RWA Bristol.
I have a Diploma in History of Art from London University (Extra-Mural).
