As part of the Open Studio event in August and because it was NRA’s 25th anniversary the group mounted a large exhibition of recent contemporary and abstract work which attracted around a lot of visitors as well as the interest of Galleries Magazine features editor Nicholas Usherwood.
Here is what he said about New Road Artists in the August edition of “Galleries”
“ Near Romsey, in the rural Test valley, a group known as New Road Artists is based.
This a slightly different venture. It was originally set up by ex-art students from Southampton Institute under the guidance of a former tutor and now meets on a weekly basis to paint together and for talks and visits.
Their reputation was founded principally on the quality of their abstract art and this still shows in the impressive character of their work, as their August group show makes very clear.”
