Yano Rafferty

After a career of science teaching and then social work I became interested in art. My approach was to learn through creating/mark making. Most of my pieces are abstracts and I like to explore the interplay of colours, shapes, rhythms, and flow. My works, based on colour sequences, remind me of the music of Steve Reich. Maths, science, music and dance all influence my art.

I have enjoyed studying art history and have been influenced by 20th century abstract artists such as: Josef Albers, Paul Klee, Ben Nicholson, Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian; also, by land artists such as Richard Long and Andy Goldsworthy and sculptors Barbara Hepworth, Henry Moore and Antony Gormley.
