Joan Willingham

After several years learning the foundations of art and attending many workshops and courses Joan progressed to a three year course with OCA, the Open College of the Arts, when she received one-to-one tuition with a first class tutor.

Over the years she has attempted many different subjects and genres and developed a distinctive style of modern semi-abstract still life painting for which she has become widely recognised. However Joan’s work has taken a new direction and her main interest is now a more abstract approach.  She has returned to the use of acrylics which combined with a mixture of mediums has given her more freedom to explore different approaches to abstraction.  Her work is now non-objective and intuitive.  She does not start with a subject in mind but by the use of mark making, choice of materials and colour the painting develops and takes on its own identity.

She has exhibited in London at the Mall Galleries and widely throughout Hampshire and has won several prestigious awards for her work.
